Meredith Grey is Here to Stay

Today we will be learning every detail of the entire story line of the 19 seasons of Grey's Anatomy..... JUST KIDDING! That would take years to cover and a whole emotional roller coaster that none of us need.

Before we dive into to the wondrous world of McDreamy and McSteamy, I would like to begin by introducing myself a bit. My name is Kaylynn and I'm 20 years old. Television has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching shows like M.A.S.H, Friends, and Drake and Josh with my parents and I discovered my love for complex plot lines that I can live vicariously through. In my eyes watching TV shows is like reading a book because I can live a million different lives without ever leaving my living room. When streaming platforms boomed it gave me even more opportunities for this which is why I am here today. So.... thats enough about me. Let's get into our first look at the complex world of Grey's Anatomy.

Grey's Anatomy is the type of show that you either absolutely love or absolutely hate. Grey's was inspired by the medical textbook "Gray's Anatomy" and focuses on the central character Meredith Grey (I would love to live just one season of her life). It first aired on March 27th, 2005 and has now progressed through 19 seasons spanning 407 episodes and is the "longest-running scripted prime-time show on ABC" according to The Harvard Crimson. The series starts by following the lives of a a new group of surgical interns working at Seattle Grace Hospital while primarily focusing on Meredith Grey and her soon to be best friends and closest coworkers. This dramatic series introduces so many fast turns and heart wrenching moments that truly put their fans through emotional rollercoasters non stop.

I would like to spend a bit of time taking about one stand out episode that I have always looked forward to watching and why it is so phenomenal.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!

First up is Season 2, Episode 5 "Bring the Pain"! Personally, I think this is the turning point of the whole 19 seasons of Grey's. Meredith and Dereks relationship had been good for a while, until Addison Shepard came to Seattle to try and win Derek back into their marriage. Meredith separated herself from Derek for as long as she could until one day her emotions built up so high that she had to let everything out. Meredith corned Derek in the scrub room and said "Pick me. Choose me. Love me." and that one line became the most monumental line of the series. I love how the director at that time spent the time to develop to intense emotional buildup that Meredith was going through. The directing made this progression so easy to relate to and it felt as if you were living it yourself.

There are so many more monumental episodes in Grey's Anatomy and I wish I could talk about them all but we would be here for years!!

If you want to learn more or dive deeper into the wide world of Grey's Anatomy there are a tons different websites to look at but my favorite one I have read is from the New York Times

I hope you enjoyed my first blog ever and next time we will be back with a deep dive into NCIS!

  1. Hey Kaylynn! I love watching TV shows, but I am so bad at picking and starting one that I always end up watching the same one over and over again. I think that this is such an interesting blog to start, especially because there are so many people want to know if a show is "worth the hype". I am going to be honest, I have not seen a single episode of "Gray's Anatomy" in my life, but as time goes on, I really want to start watching it. I like how you picked a specific episode to focus on. It really makes your readers crave more and tempts them to go watch the show. Great job!

  2. Hey Kaylynn, I really enjoyed reading your blog! I personally loved Grey’s anatomy, but it got to a point where the seasons were getting repetitive, characters were dying left and right, story was constantly changing, and they were trying too hard to make it connected to the real world, with COVID and that stuff, hence that’s why I “loved” it, but now I absolutely hate it. The newer seasons are the ones I hate, considering that we are watching these shows to escape reality, and the constant turmoil that is around us, but these shows really had to incorporate it in there, and that made the last few seasons distasteful. I definitely enjoyed the medical aspect of the show, even though some of the things that happened were realistic, but it was still one of the shoes that I enjoyed initially. I really had high expectations for Netflix, but over the years, they are just significantly declining with the amount of shows and movies that they are airing, considering that they are such a big corporation, and they are constantly removing shoes and movies, so I’m hoping that they don’t delete the good ones. Watching shows and movies is for sure the best way to enter a whole alternative world or perspective, with new stories and scenarios that unfold, and they always manage to alter our brain chemistry, and initiate some sort of feeling within us. To say the least, when McDreamy left the show, things went downhill for Seattle Grace. Awesome Blog!

    1. Hi Kaylynn! When I first clicked on your post, I immediately got excited because Grey's Anatomy is one of my favorite shows. However, I agree that it's one of those shows where you either hate it... or love it. I also grew up watching a lot of shows and movies such as Forrest Gump, Friends, Full House, etc. Since it's summer, I really want to spend more time binge
ing some Netflix shows since I was too busy to do so while in school. Looking forward to what shows/movies you'll be suggesting!
