Calling All Hopeless Romantics! It's Bridgerton Time!
Miss Daphne Bridgerton… the Duke of Hastings….
Miss Kate Sharma…. Viscount Antony Bridgerton…
Queen Charlotte…. King George….
This is the tale of family, friends, scandal, and love during the social seasons of Regency-era England. Bridgerton is a TV series produced by Shondaland that is based on a series of romance novels written by Julia Quinn. Two of the seasons can be found on Netflix as Bridgerton and the other season can be found on Netflix as Queen Charlotte.
I wake up every morning wishing I could spend just one social season in England in the 1800’s. To be able to experience and watch the season first hand would be breathtaking. Between the fashion, the language, the chivalry, the scandal, the love triangle, and the gossip there is not much more you could ask for in a romance series.
Season one starts by following the life of the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne. When the Queen of England names Daphne as the social seasons incomparable Antony Bridgerton, Daphne's eldest brother, makes it his goal to have only the best man for Daphne to marry. However, he turns into the biggest obstacle for Daphne to get past in order to even meet men for her to court. Daphne ends up befriending the Duke of Hastings and they make a pact to be “fake in love” to fool everyone and make other suitors for Daphne jealous. BUT the love connection that the Duke and Daphne actually share is something nobody can beat. It shows what true unconditional love looks like. Sacrifices are made on both sides and it is so beautiful yet they do not want to admit it. I won't spoil the ending but I hope this was enough to at least make you watch the first season.
One theme that connects all of the seasons together is the infamous writer Lady Whistledown. She has made it her life goal to expose all the hot gossip and scandal of the ton and MAN DOES THE CAUSE SOME ISSUES! Lady Whistledown is a mystery woman who makes sure absolutely everyone hears about scandal, love, and more. Without Lady Whistledown there wouldn’t be near the amount of drama… but where's the fun in that.
Moving on to a speed round of season two. This season is a love triangle mess between Antony Bridgerton and two ladies that I won’t spoil for you! This season is such a nail biter and you absolutely have to watch it for yourself.
Last but certainly not least is Queen Charlotte which takes us back in time to the marriage of Queen Charlotte and King George and their story as newlyweds. The friendship, love, pain, and agony that are embodied in this season have made it a work of art. The vow of supporting and loving each other through sickness and in health is looked at heavily in this season which makes it even more touching to the heart.
I don’t want to beg… but I am begging you to watch this series and even read the books if you are more of a reader. I know it will be the most breathtaking show you will ever watch.
